Pop Corn Making - the way our ancestors did it!


We each got a corn kernel to examine.


It was small and hard.


We talked about healthy snacks - no sugar, salt or fat, and gluten free!



It was pretty cool, watching the corn kernels pop open and jump up to hit the glass lid!


It was even cooler when we took the lid off!!!!!


Look out!


We stayed well back. We didn't want to get burnt.



When it started going crazy, we put the lid back on!


Then we got to eat our popcorn treat!


Can your little person explain how popcorn pops?


We needed heat and oil.


The heat causes a tiny drop of water inside the kernel to expand.


It makes the corn starch explode and turns the hard little kernel into the soft fluffy treat we all enjoy!
